  Ford Screen Interface


We designed in-car user interfaces for the cluster (behind the steering wheel) and center console of Ford’s new Mondeo, launched in the Chinese market. The goal was to deliver a fresh interface language grounded in Ford’s “smart surface” concept while staying true to the brand’s identity. Our focus was on creating UI interactions that felt modern and distinctive, yet intuitive and easy to use for a wide range of drivers.

The Ask

The client wanted to develop an experience where the drive and passenger could independently interact with the system to activate different features. Also, they wanted the user interface to be intuitive enough for everyone to easily manipulate and achieve their goals in the shortest time.


Taxonomy

To support a scalable design system, we developed a clear taxonomy that defined content hierarchy, screen behaviors, and interaction patterns across both the cluster and center console. This structure helped ensure consistency across different UI states while allowing flexibility for localization and future feature updates.




Wireframe samples

These wireframes were created to explore layout structure, information flow, and interaction logic across various driving scenarios. Designed for both the cluster and center console, they helped align stakeholders early on and served as a blueprint for prototyping and visual design.













Visual Design

The visual design focused on balancing clarity, modern aesthetics, and brand consistency. We explored treatments for typography, iconography, and color that aligned with Ford’s identity while enhancing legibility and usability across different lighting conditions. The final UI was designed to feel both premium and intuitive within the smart surface framework.








User Interface samples


This section showcases a range of finalized UI screens across the cluster and center console. Each layout was designed with attention to clarity, hierarchy, and contextual responsiveness, ensuring that key information remains accessible without overwhelming the driver. The interfaces reflect a clean, functional design language tailored to in-car use.
